Rhapsody Acquires Napster’s UK and German Assets To Take On Spotify

NapsterMusic streaming service Rhapsody has followed up on its purchase of Napster’s US assets last year with the acquisition of their UK and German assets to take the fight to market leader Spotify. The company will keep on all Napster International’s staff and maintain the use of the Napster brand in Europe.

Current Napster subscribers will be migrated to Rhapsody’s infrastructure over the next couple of months, and they plan to improve offline playback quality an playlist management across the service. They will also be bringing the service to Germany before Spotify manages to launch in the country – it looks like we might have some serious competition here which should force improvements all round.

Iam quite curious how this merge is going to play out..especially that they decided to keep the brand name but place the whole thing on the Rhapsody platform.
